Alvin Phang’s Personal Story
Alvin Phang
del.icio.us it! | reddit it! | stumble it!

Thanks so much for the great response for my launch. I was watching The Secret from Google Video again and it pondered me again to stop and think about my thoughts.

I started business almost 4 years ago because of one book I read and that was Rich Dad which taught me about passive income for the first time.

My journey in business was not a nice picture, my very first business I was involved in was actually in MLM. I started off selling shampoo stuff and lotions! Yeah.. believe it.. I was one of THEM! =P

During my journey in the MLM business, I met some good friends and we actually had our REAL own business started at China Town setting up our flea market there. What we did there we actually sold junk and people seriously still buy! Lolx it seriously a joke as I remember people paying $10 for a tore shirt =P

After a few months in the flea market business, being greedy we went one step further and actually open our first gift business shop! Business was not great and we had quarrels in between the business about people not taking care of the business.

Our partnership soon turn sour and about 3 months after not much activity, I decided I not going to hold this back from allowing me to make money. As I have told some of my friends who know me I want to retire by 30 years old to earn my first million and I believe I will.

So what I did next I started my next corporate gift business again and setup my online store. But still business wasn’t picking up but I did learn a lot along the way and pick up new skills as I did my business.

It was until mid July 2006! The day I will never forget when my dad ended up in the hospital from an accident. Suddenly, being only 24 years old and being the eldest in the family. I felt I was a total changed man from that day on.

My dad is now permanently disabled at home, my mum has to take care of dad almost every day and my sister and brother has to school. Only left me as the eldest to take care of my family.

When friends ask me out to relax, I will always see myself too busy and worried for my family as I had bills to pay and family to take care so I did not really like to hang out so often as I would previously. It seriously made me a more mature man.

The reason many have seen me working so hard lately is not because of fame and fortune but for only one purpose only and one only which is my father!

When I was young, my father was a very great business man. He had a store in Parkway Parade selling Claypot rice. His store was name as “Alvin’s Claypot - Fastest Claypot in the east” and back then was famous in Class 95 known as the SABOKING.

The store was there like almost more then 15 years but was later close down due to high rent and poor business back then. Thinking back IF ONLY I know what my dad has gone through I would be more then happy to grow his business so that he can retire earlier.

It is not easy to open a food store, from my experience of what my dad does. He wakes up 6AM! in the morning EVERYDAY and only reaches home at 11PM EVERYDAY with no break what so ever!

I was glad he retired from the business and then he became a taxi driver. Which was a much more relief job for him. But after the accident, every changed then.

I am just sharing this story of mine is that, if you are still studying or working for someone do not takes things you have for granted. Seriously you have to work hard for your money DO NOT allow your parents do all the spoon feeding for YOU!

I seriously very sad I did not realized I was been spoon fed all my life until that accident which really woke me up. But I am know it now better then later.

For those who are in business or are working very hard for their money! DONT FORGET one key thing in life is no matter how much you earn or how much you have. FAMILY IS ALWAYS MORE IMPORTANT then anything in LIFE. Trust me… I have first hand experience. Given a choice I would just take more time to spend with my family then anything else.

I hope by reading this story of mine will inspire you in what ever you do and you can share it with your friends

Hi Alvin,

I do agreed with you at times we do just focus on doing our things and forget about our love one and family. I think the key is balance. Balance in everything that we do or else we might regret in life in the future.

Hi Alvin,

I had just read your story at this present time when me too am facing a crisis in my family life. Seems like life has a mysterious way of presenting coincidences…Like John Tan had mentioned, I guess everything in life needs a balance. Sadly, it is only through experience that we learnt about it. Take care bro..

Yours,
William

Hi Alvin,
First, I would like to thank you for helping my daughter with her school assignment on 31 May 2007.
Having read your story, I now have a better understanding of your family. It is my belief that everything in life happens for a reason. It is an opportunity to learn about ourselves, our strength and weakness. It can be quite amazing to emerge much stronger than we could ever imagine. Life is a journey, an experience. Every adversity has a seed of greatness. It is crucial to have a positive attitude so that each experience, good or bad, becomes a stepping stone instead of a stumbling block. I have attended Robert Kiyosaki’s seminar and read his books too. Another great book, which I received as a gift, would be Secrets of a Millionaire Mind by T Harv Eker. I am truly inspire by this speech by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, and hope you enjoy it too - http://www.youtube.com/v/D1R-jKKp3NA&

I admire your drive and wish you success!

Hey Alvin,

I think it’s rather late that I am commenting at this very moment because I came across your site and realized that you’re the Alvin that had an interview with my Mentor Ewen chia. Great product sales letter, i am sure this is going to be a great breakthrough for you….did you write it yourself? In any case, if you make it big, you really deserve it, especially after you have gone through so much in life. I guess sometimes desperation do drives us out of our comfort zone.

I am going through the situation right now. I dad is in his last stages of cancer..so it’s a constant fight for him everyday..

Oh yes, i did sell shampoo too…lol…keep in touch..

Hi Alvin,

It is really inspiring to read your personal journey to your online success :) You deserve the things that you get after going through so much.

I agree with you on the 2 points that you written.

The 1st point is DO NOT allow parent to do all the spoon feeding and the 2nd point is FAMILY IS ALWAYS MORE IMPORTANT then anything in LIFE.

These are the 2 reasons that motivates me to work hard too but it can be hard sometime when people thought that you are being obsessed with money when the actual motivation is because of family.

Do keep it up and all the best to your online success :)

Hi Alvin,

Its nice to get to know more about the man behind the system. I have drawn a lot of inspiration from AtomicBlogging which will pay off soon.

I do agree that money isn’t everything, but unfortunately society, has made it become the thing that everything revolves around including the family.

I’m sure with your persistence you will achieve your stated goals.

Best wishes for your future,

Phill

Yes, family is more important than anything in life.

But, it because of this that making sufficient money becomes important, when one fulfills his financial obligations in life, he can free up his time to do whatever he wishes, that includes providing for your family.

Someone reminded Robert Kiyosaki that money cannot buy happiness, but he replies that money can buy time, buy time to do what you love, and if you do what you love, will you be happy?

I read your story and understand the predicament you were in. I was put in a similar situation and had to earn a living and pay for my own NUS fees when I was 21. At the same time, hel my mum and the rest of the family too financially. But, the whole ordeal made me stronger and I learned a lot just getting involved in several businesses which apparently introduced me to entrepreneurship.

Keep on going Alvin.

Cheers!

Hi Alvin,

I was at your workshop the other day and enjoyed your excellent presentation. You even interviewed me and asked if i can contribute a success story if you can help me achieve my monetary goals via internet marketing.

I heard your story and felt sorry for you but at the same time have to compliment you for being such a filial son and a nice brother to your younger siblings. You are great.

You are a very pleasant person and i am very sure you are caring towards all your students too and for that, i am prepared to strongly recommend you to anyone who wants to know more about internet marketing if i can hit my targeted income online.

Thanks fr

Hi Alvin,

You have done pretty well to-date and should be able to achieve your target of making your 1st million in reasonable good time, if not by end of this year.

Sad to say, sometimes such situation bring the best out of us and make us ‘hungry’ for success.

You must be ‘hungry’ in order to achieve success in whatever you are doing.

Regards

David

Interesting, I read Rich Dad Poor Dad also years ago but only started my blog few weeks after my enterprising granddad died.

So like you say: family is very important, never take things for granted, money doesn’t grow on trees and your health is your most valuable asset.
