I Need Some Directions & Help
Hey Guys,
On Thursday morning 9am I will be flying off to Penang for a talk called Global Internet Summit. I need some help on directions as it’s my first time in Penang.
Anyone have any recommendations for the following:
- Where to find the best Penang Laksa?
- Where to find great food in Penang?
- My wife loves shopping any great shopping malls to recommend?
- I am also looking for wholesale markets that sell accessories any one know any?
If you got any sugguestions just comment below
That’s would be great! Thanks in advanced

Hello Alvin…
I am a true blue Penang girl. I am happy that you’re coming to Penang. Welcome!
Q1. Other than YingHang’s suggestion of downhill Kek Lok Si Temple, if you are in town in the afternoon or tea time, you can go to Anson Road for laksa. If at night, it’s gotta be the Pulau Tikus laksa at the Bee Hooi coffee shop.
Q2. Great food… depends on what you mean. Specific foods will have specific locations. You could go on a binging spree and 3 days would not be enough to cover all the locations! LoL.
Q3. As for shopping malls, my personal favourite, is Gurney Plaza. It is very near Evergreen Laurel, so should be easy to drop your wife off there.
Q.4 What kind of accessories are you looking for?
Can’t really help you with that but I’m sure you’ll have no problems finding everything you need once you arrive. It’s not that huge place so you should be able to get some information from anyone on the street.

From what my friend told me, Gurney Drive have might have what you are looking for.
You can refer to: http://www.penang.ws/areas/gurney.htm for more information.
The food seems real nice. And i think you can gain a good load of cultural experience there.
Hi Alvin,
For questions 1 & 2, it’s hard to say where’s the best and which is great.. there’s many that you could go to and of course, it goes down to what u prefer – stalls, restaurants, etc..
if you want to try Mamak food, I’d tell u to go to this restaurant at Campbell Street. It’s called Hameediyah. Most would tell you to go to Line Clear. It’s a very popular mamak stall in penang. Been there before. Its not that bad too
For shopping, there are shopping malls but you can always go to town and look-see around you. There’s many of these old-school shops that sells a lot of stuffs.. wouldn’t know what u’re looking for
besides, this will give u the chance to explore penang

I think that you can ask direction from John Chow since he is already there.
