First and foremost i would like to apologise for this super duper uber late writeup.
Reason being i’m not happy with the way my notebook works and i had to
reinstall over and over again to make it work the way i like it.
Plus i have to prepare for my upcoming semester. In any case, Lets begin…

So what is the Internet?

“The Internet is the worldwide, publicly accessible network of
interconnected computer networks that transmit data by packet switching
using the standard Internet Protocol (IP). It is a “network of networks”
that consists of millions of smaller domestic, academic, business, and
government networks, which together carry various information and services,
such as electronic mail, online chat, file transfer, and the interlinked Web pages
and other documents of the World Wide Web.”

Sounds confusing huh?
Basically its a group of computers(network) from all over the world connected
with one another sharing information with each other. With that in mind, I
shall point out a very common mistake that most of us (including me) use.

The differences between Internet and Web.
If you think about it, to us the Internet and the Web carries the same meaning.
The fact is, they are different!
Internet is a collection of computer networks that connects with each other.
Web is a collection of documents and other resources that connects with
each other through hyperlinks and URLs.

So why is the Internet important to us?
As of 11th January 2007, according to the Internet World Stats,
1.093 billion people use the Internet! And the numbers keep increasing!
Reason being, it makes our daily life much simpler.

With the internet, i can constantly keep in contact with my family
and friends back in Singapore when i’m away for my studies.
Urgent matters that needs attention can be sent in an instant
through mediums such as email, Internet Messenger (MSN/YAHOO! Messenger)
or Voice Over IP (Skype).
I can watch TV episodes or anime that i’ve missed from the Internet (www.peekvid.com).
And also i can earn money through the net too!

The Internet has also become a large market for companies;
some of the biggest companies today have grown by taking advantage
of the efficient nature of low-cost advertising and commerce through
the Internet; also known as e-commerce. It is the fastest way to spread
information to a vast amount of people simultaneously. The Internet has
also subsequently revolutionized shopping—for example; a person can
order a CD online and receive it in the mail within a couple of days, or
download it directly in some cases. The Internet has also greatly
facilitated personalized marketing which allows a company to market a
product to a specific person or a specific group of people more so than
any other advertising medium.

Imagine the potential prospects that you can find through the Internet.
As i have mentioned… 1.093 billion people.
The best thing is that the major users are from Asia!.

So to those of you who want a piece of this pie to earn big bucks… Better start getting IT savvy!
