Generally a product/service/website owner wants to generate publicity and word-of-mouth for their product, and they subscribe to the belief that the best way is to get blogs talking about it. If your blog enjoys high traffic, it means that the review will be read by many people, which translates to more potential word-of-mouth and sales for the customer. You can command a higher fee for your assignments then.
3) the niche your blog is catering to
Certain niches tend to believe in sponsored reviews more and thus tend to pay higher rates. If you are in the right niche, your assignments can be worth a lot of money.
Blog reviews can be very financially rewarding if you do the right thing. Bearing in mind the above 3 factors, you will be able to make decent money through blogging.

I agree on its potential to generate income. However, I would say that as a blogger, I would choose a paid review based on following criteria:
1. Value & relevance to my readers
2. Would paid review be a put off for them?
3. Value to my reputation & blog in general
4. Revenue
