Make Money Online, Is It Possible? – Part 3

In part 1 of this article, it was crafted to help people to identify what problems they had making money online & out of 1045 views only 32 people decided to response that’s 3%. For part 2 of this article, it was crafted to help people identify what is the reason they wanted to make money online & that got 49 responses out of 980 views that’s 5% which is better :)

Some of you guys may be thinking what does these two things got to do with making money online? Well here’s the truth fact! It HAS TO DO WITH EVERYTHING my friend :) Why you may ask? If you do not have the right mindset when you first start off into the journey of making money online, 99% of you guys will fail! And that’s a truth fact, because I have seen numerous times people just give up in just 30 days or less!

The keyword word here is consistency and you must have a wrong reason to keep you going and also identify your problems as you go along to SOLVE them not CRY OR GET DISAPPOINTED because of the problems :)

Doing internet marketing is not like a job, non is it a get quick rich thing. You will need a strong mindset in order to survive in this online competitive world. As everyday and I really do mean EVERYDAY you have to spend time on your internet business. But not spending all the time in LEARNING and BUYING STUFF but what you SHOULD be doing is MARKETING your website which means getting more eye balls to your website :)

I have read through some of the stories and entries and what I can say is those that decided to take action will be more successful that those that done :) It’s a fact, based on the 20/80 rule. 20% of people will only be successful while the rest just simply sit there and wait for things to happen. If you want something YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING :)

So What’s Next?

After you have identify your problems and found your reasons to make money online online, what’s next? Well the most basic thing you will need next is to identify what market and niche you want to be in.

Selecting Your Niche

Many people get it all wrong when it comes to selecting a niche. In most cases, people would select a niche based on demand rather then based on interest. It’s real important that whatever you decide to sell online, you must ENJOY & LOVE IT!

I am not kidding guys, based on my experience when you marketing something you do not really like at most time you will give up within the 1 week and go back to your BORING JOB. To make things worst, some may even totally retire from making money online.

There is not point choosing a niche which you have zero knowledge off and start selling products about it in your niche. What you will experience is more headaches and frustrations along the way.

Just in case you are not aware what is a niche, it simply getting yourself specializing in only a few things within a large market that hardly many people are doing.

Most common niches people would select are:

- Internet Marketing
- Blogging
- Investment
- Real Estate
- Health
- Weight Loss
- MLM

For me, I love to write and I knew my English is really bad but that did not stop me from improving and trying. So if language is stopping you from blogging, then you start to think differently and make a change and challenge yourself to do something different. I have been doing this for close to 3 years now and enjoying every bit of it :)

So What’s Your Niche?

Now that I had shared mine, it’s time to share yours :) I would like know what niches you are currently into now and comment below? Or if you are not into anything now, just comment below only ONE niche you would be interested to work on?

On top of that I also want you to comment down and list down 3 products you are currently selling in your niche. If you have just one then just list one. Just input the product name will do.

Here’s an example

Niche: Make Money Online From Blogging
- Atomic Blogging 2.0
- Socialmatic
- Blog Cash Guide

    Hi Alvin,

I just wrote a blog article on:

“How to Identify a Niche You’re Passionate About”

While writing it, I remembered my 90 year old uncle in New Zealand who travels on safari across the Australian Outback (desert) every year because it’s his passion..he doesn’t have a blog…yet:-)

    Hi Alvin

My add to this conversation and maybe try to courage others;start from your talent which means something you are in love with and able to doing things the best way;some results are going to happen,if you don’t make money, at least you would become much better in what you doing and get recognitions. My way approved it:Stories written by me are present on many places online,i saw people love it and i feel great.Hope money is going to come,it depends on more things,if you are able to invest in your work there is no obstacle to further .

i would appreciate to visit my blog and see my achievement

    Thanks

  3. My niche is in health, with natural remedies.First it was difficult to get traffic, after struggling to over first three months we finally managed to steady traffic, and 50% came from search engine, which means that’s good, giving indication that people are interested to your niche, next thing how to convert into sales, that’s the biggest challenge.

  4. Louise says:

I have 4 niches that I currently blog in. I try to stick to micro niches rather than the broader markets.

    1. IM
    2. Genealogy
    3. Cross Stitching
    4. Arts & Crafts

My products for the last two tend to be from Amazon or direct from retailers.

The genealogy ones are mostly retailers offline who have a web presence.

The IM one is my latest project, aimed at newbies. Mostly related to social marketing sites like Viral Networks or blogging products like Atomic Blogging.

  5. Jerry says:

Making money is possible. Isn’t $1 money also?…joking, of course you can make much more than that!

All my websites ranked 3/10 within 3 months of putting them live and they ranked on 1st to 2nd page of most of the major search engines for 4 to more than 10 key phrases depending on the engines. All these without taking any course in SEO. Getting rank high is not difficult as some SEO gurus make it out to be.

However, ranking high do not necessarily means it will convert well! It needs a lot of discipline, time and skills in marketing.

Choosing the niche and making it convert to sales is the most difficult task.

Many find juggling full time job (not to mention the daily household chores, taking of kids etc) and spending time on their IM business very difficult.
[I also never heard of any businessman/insurance agent/real estate agent become successful doing part time].

    Questions:

    (1) Now I want to ask is how many here consider giving up their full time job (with guaranteed pay every month especially if you have good pay) to go full time doing IM?
[Need to consider how many months or even up to 2 years one can afford to go without monthly income to sustain one's IM business and expenses especially if you have few mouths to feed]

    (2) Is blogging a good way to start making money?
[Blogging needs a lot of consistently work and contents. A well known super guru told his students that blogging is not recommended as a start]

    (3) Going into IM niche is not recommended for newbies as I have heard from many gurus (obviously, unless you already make tons). Any comment to this?

    To your success!
    Jerry

    Newbies can make money too!

    • I’m not sure what’s your question for number 1, but here’s my answer for number 2—> “blogging is not recommended as a start”, I feel this is so wrong, because to me, blogging is a way to find what you are really expert in… you may failed the first few times, but by failing you will realize what you are really expert in. (May I know who is the super guru you talking about?)

The third question—> Ya you are right it is not recommended but still is all about learning and giving and then earning…!

  6. Shen-Li says:

    Alvin – that’s my problem… I don’t know which one to choose.

Nigel – thanks. Very practical advice and you’re right. I can narrow it down to three. The sports blog, the parenting blog and the personal blog. I’m just worried that my topics aren’t focused enough. I’ve tried thinking of how to narrow it down but I’m afraid that’s also where I struggle.

I love to blog and this seems like the most logical way to make money for me. I’m a bit of a passion writer. I write whatever happens to take my fancy at any one time and that really depends on mood and experiences. I could blog from with a more professional style and have written a few such blog posts, but I’m afraid that isn’t something I could do on a daily basis.

Am I doomed to make just pocket money this way?

  7. Hello,

I’m working on two blogs right now :
    -one about lifestyle
    -one about internet marketing

    I’m also working on a concept :
-the one dollar concept, offering ebooks-scripts-video’s for just one dollar.

I have no products from my own.
    Regards,
    Philippe de Tiege

  8. nigel chua says:

Shen Li: hey i understand where you’re coming from – when i started out i started with close to 10 blogs, and they all were my passions!…or so i thought. As you sit down, you can try to pay attention to them all as you might be doing now, but give yourself at least 2 weeks, and really monitor the following items:

    1) Time spent at each blog/niches
    2) Emotions (happy/neutral/bored)

For each of your blog, tabulate them, and you’d realise you’ll likely to have 1-3 that you have real passion for (notice: 80/20 rule). Stick to these 1-3, and monitor their results (readership, sales etc), and take the one that makes the most (happiness and satisfaction for you vs sales) and get rid of the rest. The one that works the best: multiply it. Or simply expand it (e.g. Joint Ventures, e-books, seminars, home-study etc)

    Hope this helps you Shen-Li.

  9. Shen-Li says:

    Alvin,

Yes, I hear you and I understand the need to focus on one. The problem is that I’ve already started all of them and I don’t really know which one to focus on. How can I decide which has the best potential to succeed?

They all present my areas of interest but there isn’t one blog that stands out above the rest in terms of what I am most passionate about.

  10. Frank Burns says:

My primary reason for becoming involved with online marketing & it’s practices are formed in the belief, that with thousands of articles, products and working programs I will be able to offer a vast library of free to learn samples for others to acquire the knowledge they need. I’ll be focusing more attention towards Private label Rights and No Restriction & Digital Right products that will generate revenue to help charities. I understand the techniques of how marketing works but not being mon.ey driven, I can readily apply to the basics with the overall conception of creating vast wealth for the poor & needy. That is my passion, it drives me and urges me on each and everyday because…I believe in myself. We can all muster our own qualities and inner strength to do good or bad in our world, penultimately it is up to all of us to decide. I choose to do Good. And from all that I have learned whilst online, it has opened the corridors of my mind to be able to identify the growing commitment of others. That is my mindset and as we all search our desires, if we can identify that the need of others is both real and demanding we can accommodate some time in the daily course of our life towards creating even a simple smile or kind word. As Bill Clinton has demonstrated in his book – Giving, there are so many ways that we can impact our actions upon the lives of others; if we only try. Forget about wars and hatred, racial discrimination and all of the ugly paradoxes that disillusion us from mainstream life and just get on with the act of doing something viable that helps a struggling family or individual. For those who proclaim they’re not interested in looking outside their own backyards, be reminded this is negative gearing and whilst you continue to believe this, you will never find self worth in the years of your own life, because you never wanted to do anything constructive. And that is a sad aspect of human nature. But combined online as a real community with people sharing their thoughts and insights & resources together, we stand a far greater chance in laying stronger foundations for the future. If we can’t enjoy the fruits of our labor, just imagine how much easier our Grand Children will. Carpe Diem.

    Hi,
    My niches are
    Area rugs,
    Blankets
    Sheepskin slippers and boots.

I sell such products offline and am increasing my reach online :-)

The reason is that I use a part of the profit of my sales to help children stay off drugs through drug education in public schools.

I used Atomic Blogging 1.0 and was able to get a website up. Since I made 3 more, still using what I learned from Alvin.

My niche is not IM and so I am not selling Atomic Blogging as an affiliate, but this is definitely a great, comprehensive, applicable product that a newbie can use. I recommend it to anyone who hope to get started with internet marketing.

Thanks again Alvin. You are someone who can be trust and who sell products that work. This makes you one of the very best.

    Sincerely, JP

Hi Alvin, I don’t only like your post’s, I’m also a member or your BlogCashGuide.com. I’m really enjoying my video training. It’s just taking me a little time getting started. My first niche is My Avon site. I’ve been an Avon Independent Sales Rep for 7/8 years now. Well we are online now and I’m trying to get customers to shop through my website. I’m also setting up some blog’s one of them is with wordpress;blogger and a few other things going on at the moment. But I would also like to learn how to import some of the people I would like to follow on my blog as well twitter.

My niche is prospecting for gold. My products are those that would interest prospectors and a couple of affiliates that are related, but non physical products are very few for this niche. Google adsense helps with the money part and the niche is very small, but I love it.

A second I will begin is in PLR, which has helped me greatly in finding information to rework for blogging. I am a fair writer, but writers block gets everyone, and I have found PLR products can give me direction, focus and inspiration.

Thanks for the encouragement. I find your information to be very helpful.

    Hello Alvin

You requested me to be here, so here i am to support you! I am learning more and more on affiliate marketing, and i blog about creating an online business at the http://www.ebusinessacademy.blogspot.com. It’s targeted at newbies, cos the information i’m putting up there is generally for IM beginners. They’re laced with some affiliate links weaved into the posts too, along with freebie memberships that are also affiliate-linked. I recommended your affiliate program Atomic Blogging (v2 or 3? =p) in My Recommended Affiliate program (it’s not to bootlick, as i have Atomic Blogging v3, and i like it very much). This is a platform for my other ventures that i am keen, such as Christianity and God, personal development, love and relationships. Plus, on the side, i am getting married this year (i heard you proposed this year too right? – maybe you want to join venture with me on this love and relationship arena?)

My main focus for 2009: love and relationship (also getting married) arena – do contact me if you’re keen, i’m doing up some stuff offline AND online to market and sell (can tell you more if you’re keen, but maybe will look for Stuart Tan too, cos i think his wife is doing something on love and relationships as well – thinking of JVing).

I have a day job which does Mega Advertising (www.businessplanets.com), which is essentially Hybrid Marketing. So later i will probably start a web/blog on hybrid marketing techniques and strategies, and input some of the Hybrid Marketing affiliate programs too.

My beginning platform is the ebusinessacademy.blogspot.com – it is helping me to consolidate all the IM knowledge that i have gathered, to help myself (good reference point) and maybe others who might find the resourse helpful, before i launch into my other plans. Likely by March i can start.

Hope this supports you, Alvin. Keep up your good works!

I think the word “Niche” is wrongly used or perceived by many internet marketers today. It used to mean that the product or service you are providing is so “new” or “unheard” of that not many other people can compete otherwise. I would rather use the word “Passion” to simplify my search for a suitable product or service, if I don’t like it, I cannot make it !

But it is hard to find one product or service that is unique because there are many similar one available online. However, if you are so good that you can create one of your own that no one else has, like Atomic Blogging, then you can call yours a Niche product.

As a newbie, I do believe that the way to carry out the Internet Marketing functions is only about 20% mechanic whilst the rest is strictly hardwork. Most people can overcome the 1st hurdle ( which I am still grasping ) but to maintain or sustain it afterward, is the real challenge. This is the same principle in all businesses ( online or offline ). There is a universal Law to it just like the Law of Gravity.

I also believed that if I really put in time and effort to understand the business, it will work in my favour ultimately but it still very much depend on the dedication and hardwork that I am putting in.

My passion has always been in Computer and I have been a Computer Service Support Guy for 23 years at least but I still cannot figure out what will be Niche to me. I am also searching a product that can co-relate to the website that I am still generating and intend to launch by March 2009.

Any advises or clue on this matter ? haha

    Cheers !
    William

  20. Rob says:

I completely agree with yrou comments about how people choose their markets. I think that, for many people, Internet Marketing is where they first aim their online activity because it’s the easiest to get into, and the one they are most exposed to messages from. You soon learn, however, that it’s far better to focus on something you enjoy, or developing your content and participating socially can become a chore rather than a pleasure.

Personally, I work in several niches, but also in vertical markets where transferable skills can easily meet the needs of the potential customers and develop activity within diverse markets using the same principles. I like practising my art within the IM niche, but it’s not where most of my income comes from.

I only have the one blog, which I prefer to use creatively and build a readership through good writing and interesting content, rather than using it purely to drive business – at the end of the day, people buy from people they like and trust so you have to prove your integrity and share your character, and you’ll soon attract the right people to your business.

I understand your disappointment in some of us for not taking action, being in knowledge of how complex and difficult is your effort to realise everything in a way to work best.
Since i am writer, love books and writing,it was easy way for me to choose my Niche.

    Great article!

I have noticed that most people choose Internet Marketing as their niches because of more varieties, I think. And there is lots of money to be made there.

I have a blog which is about healthy living. The content/article is update automatically so I don’t have to do anything. It makes my life easier for me.

Right now, I am trying to create a website with membership so that people get things for free when they join but I have little bit difficulty in how to apply it. I know I will get there.

Good luck to everyone who have their own website or blog and making money.

  23. Hi Alvin,

    Good advise as usual.

Regarding niches I have always been interested in “making money” as a niche, particularly from a one size fits all mentality.

What do I mean by that? Long ago I realized that

    a) I wanted to find an auto pilot system that paid me money ;-) whilst I played around with the next best thing and

    b) I am an absolute sucker for the next best thing ;-( to the extent that I would never find enough time to complete the auto pilot income generator that I was looking for before I wanted to go play with something else.

    Sad and pathetic huh?

Since discovering this about myself I have endeavored to create my own auto pilot income generating systems that will allow me to do both – generate money AND play with the next best thing. Now when I see something I want to play with its got to be able to integrate into one of my Systems.

This might sound confusing but it works for me.

  24. Shen-Li says:

Niches – too many, too broad. I have too many interests and not enough time to pursue them all. I have five main blogs but I think my topics are all too broad.

    I blog about:

    1. parenting – based on my experience of raising my child who is now two.
    2. sports – rock climbing, working out at home as a mother, and recently the Wii Fit
    3. household stuff – been in the corporate world chasing career ladders since graduation that it felt strange to drop it all to become a stay-at-home Mum.
    4. writing – I’ve always loved writing fiction but never took it further. So I keep a blog about my creative writing pieces that I might one day turn into a book.
    5. making money online – I keep a blog about it, but I think this niche is far too competitive for me.

  25. Christopher says:

Well Alvin this question will probably get you less than 2% response rate. What niche people are in is not something I’m willing to discuss in front of a bunch of copy cat newbies. Most marketers only talk about their niche to their niche. Hope you understand.

    • Alvin Phang says:

sure can understand :) well in some niches it’s still ok to exposure :)

    • Alvin Phang says:

one more thing I like to add on is … I do have lots of people who tried to copy what I do and have lots of competitors especially in the blogging market..

However.. I love competitors because I would most often try to find ways to do Joint Ventures with them :)

  26. Niche: Destress Yourself
    audios
    books
    teleseminar secrets (TSS)

  27. Dear Alvin,
Sorry I havn’t participated in your survey but just do not have time. I have higher priorities and they take up my time. I spend all day on the web doing ministry and need to make some money on the side but the days go too fast.
I do make it a point to read your newsletter to learn more about marketing and they have helped me understand. I tried to set up the blog I bought from you but it didn’t come together yet. I plan to set up one from Word Press and use all your hints.
You are having an effect on me but like I said I need 3 days for every day I get to do what needs to happen.
Keep up your great communication. I plan to read it.
    God bless you
    Rita Williams

  28. Jet says:

    Hi Alvin,

What you have said in those 3 articles is spot on, on the part why people fail at Internet Marketing.

I guess this sentence “Are you into Internet Marketing?” has more or less become a catch phrase but nothing more than that. Some will attend courses but less than 5% achieved results; worst still some are seminar junkies – I was one of them.

I can’t agree with you more that consistency is the key to unlock all the knowledge bottled up within us. The rest is just pure Action, nothing more.

I have been searching for a niche that I am passionate about for sometime now, although I do have topics to write on. Blogging is still something I am very keen on doing… and for that, I will work on this subject.

I have yet to choose a product to market but most likely it will be Atomic Blogging 2.0, as I find it rather comprehensive for newbies to master this topic in a very short time.

So, my next step is to set up my Blog fast and stop the procrastination.

    Best wishes,
    Jet Quah

    Hi Alvin,

I do agree with you that one has to have a right mind set
but unfortunately many people do think there is some magic
bullet in Internet marketing where they press a button and have
some in money in their pocket.

Just like when I first started a MLM business 5 years ago.
Doing a business is not just about selecting a niche,
driving traffic to your web sites, learning to write a sales
letter. It’s about self and time management.

You have to really ask why you want to make money money online in the first place. After you vision yourself on what you are going to be in the next 3 years or so. Sitting down writing a plan and execute it.

If you don’t execute the plan nothing is going to happen.

Seek for advice from people like Alvin, he is a great guy.
Sometime he helped me to plan something ahead.

Anyway, what I want to say is not about the methods, we all know the methods to some extent but what’s important is how strong you want to succeed online? If you can answer this question, congratulations, you are in the right track!

I mean in the current financial situation, jobs are hard to find. People are worried of getting laid off every day. Smart persons don’t just sit there and wait for opportunities but instead they create opportunities for themselves. So are you one of them?

I was laid off and could not find a new job during this recession so I have nothing to lose but to create a demanding service where I am getting some income online now.

So it’s your turn. Don’t just sit there. Do something and start making things happen!

By the way to answer your questions, Alvin.
I am currently in the search engine niche, like SEO as I have a professional certificate and do have some web site rank top 20 in Google and MSN.

I am currently selling link building services at the warrior. I will be launching some new package so do check up.

In the future, may be get a SEO package set up or start doing some link baiting or web 2.0 link building things.

Also I think it’s time to work on Google Adwords professional as well as I have already spent the requirement in my adwords account.

Anyway this is my plan at the moment.

    thanks

    Hi alvin,

I currently serving my NS. So I really do not have time for writing blog, forum marketing, article marketing or doing traffic exchange.

The time I have is weekend only. And I keep on trying my best to work on my niche which is affiliate marketing. I also have a blog which I would post what i have done. Meanwhile, I been thinking and writing down in my notebook what should I do and what is my plan.

I read your previous 2 articles on this topic. I learn something from these 2 articles. It’s quite useful. And also give me some idea on what I should really do.

    Thanks.

  33. Alvin,
This Blog post comes at a good time for me. I find it inspiring. I am working on s site that I hope to have many areas covered, bloging, internet marketing, affiliate marketing and just basic good information for the consumer.
I do see that I need to understand coding better as it seems to be a very important part of the business. Being able to get the point across.
Many thanks for your information. Content, content, etc….
