Hi Guys, I am actually in China now but I have setup a special 4 part course to help you get started about making money blogging so so remember to click here to subscribe to the blog to receive more powerful tips from this blog.
If you want to make money with your blog, you must attract targeted visitors. There are a number of ways to do this. One of the most powerful ways to attract this targeted traffic to your blog is through search engines such as Google and Yahoo. People find your blog through the search engines by first searching for a keyword or phrase. If your blog is ranked well for those keywords and phrases, you can drive literally thousands of people to your blog each day. The key is doing proper keyword research.
What Are People Searching For?
It does little good to rank well in Google for a keyword or phrase for which nobody searches. For example, assume your blog is about dog training and you rank well for the key phrase “dog training in Yugoslavia.” Nobody searches for that keyword. As a result, ranking well in Google for that keyword has no value to you.
Similarly, you must rank for keywords that are relevant to your blog’s topic. If your blog about dog training ranks well in Google for “lipstick,” you may attract people to your blog, but you will likely not make any money. You want targeted traffic. Anything else is a waste.
An Easy Way To Do Keyword Research
There are many tools (some free) that will help you find the keywords that people are searching for in your market. Google’s keyword tool is used by many people to get an overview of the ratio between those searching for a keyword and the number of advertisers on Google who are bidding on that keyword.
This is a good barometer to use for your blog’s keyword research. You will not only learn the volume of searches done on Google (arguably the most widely-used search engine on the Internet) for your keywords, but also whether advertisers are bidding on that keyword. If advertisers are bidding on a keyword, it is likely that the keyword is delivering targeted traffic from which they can make money. Once you identify those money-making keywords in your research, you can begin optimizing your blog to rank well for those keywords. This is an easy way to do profitable keyword research for free.
Avoid Competitive Keywords
Your keyword research will likely uncover keywords that attract a huge number of searches. Often, these keywords are extremely competitive. That is, in order for your blog to rank well for these keywords, you may have to spend a significant amount of time, money and effort. While this can be profitable, there is a better way.
Try to get your blog ranked for a large number of less-competitive keywords. Rather than spending all of your resources ranking for one or two high-traffic keywords, spread out. Try ranking for dozens of lower-traffic keywords. This is often much easier to do simply because there is less competition for these lower-traffic keywords.
The first step in making money with your blog is to do proper keyword research. While there are many wonderful keyword tools that you can pay for, start with Google’s keyword tool. It’s free, easy to use and provides a wealth of profitable information that you can use to start getting search engine traffic to your blog. Part 2 in this series will discuss how you can easily start a blog.
