New WordPress 2.8 Is Out!
I was updating my blog and just realized that there is new released of Wordpress version 2.8! And there are quite a number of major new improvements.
- New drag-and-drop widgets admin interface and new widgets API
- Syntax highlighting and function lookup built into plugin and theme editors
- Browse the theme directory and install themes from the admin
- Allow the dashboard widgets to be arranged in up to four columns
- Allow configuring the number of items to show on management pages with an option in Screen Options
- Support timezones and automatic daylight savings time adjustment
- Support IIS 7.0 URL Rewrite Module
- Faster loading of admin pages via script compression and concatenation

Warning You Need To Backup Your Wordpress Before You Upgrade
In some cases, during any Wordpress upgrade your current plugins and themes may not function after the upgrade so do be careful when you upgrade your Wordpress. Always back your blog first before you proceed with the upgrade. You can easily backup by using the Cpanel backup feature to backup your entire website.

I’m a bit hesitant to upgrade because I just don’t know what its going to do to my theme and plugings etc.
I think I’ll wait and see what others say and any big.

Hi Alvin,
Do you upgrade yourself or using fantastico in the cpanel to upgrade?
Because my wordpress is using fantastico to install, a lazy way of not installing yourself and get to upgrade automatically too.
For now, my fantastico do not have 2.8 yet so meanwhile I may not upgrade. It seems 2.8 are a bit more better than 2.7.1 .

Hi, I just upgraded to 2.8 and a few things are bothering me.
1) Comments: if you click on author, it won’t check all the boxes
2) Post: the quick edit link does not work
3) Post/Edit: Publish links do not work
Are you experiencing some of these or is my upgrade went wrong?
An update to my last comment… It is recommended to deactivate all plugins before upgrading. Something I didn’t do. Also, in order to so;ve my problem I first deactivated all of them and then reactivated one by one… The culprit was for me “WPMarketer”. It is working now.
Do you know of any replacement that does the same thing Alvin?

Wow.. It looks cool. I have been using wp 2.7.X. Thanks for the info, I will check it out, what more can be done in wp 2.8.
The only thing I concern is, will the plugins(that work in wp2.7.X) work well in wp 2.8??
