Re: part one dark pages. I agree that is all depends on the purpose of your blog.
However, over the years, studies have shown that dark text on light backgrounds is more readable.
On the other hand, it is your blog and you can do what you want with it.

You chose your goals and if you are satisfied with the results that is great.
Looking from a strictly marketing objective, when your site (blog) is not producing the bottom line, you have to ask yourself .....why?
Internet marketing does require tweeking and adjusting "all" of your marketing materials to obtain the best and most profitable results.

Do not feel it is bad when the sky has darkened and do not feel it is good when the sky has brightened.
This is likened to a blind leading the blind. Alvin Phang may be right about having a brighter background for our web site or blogger site as the great majority of potential buyers prefer such. The next newer generation of netizens may not share the same opinion as us and we must keep an open mind about their preferred colours if we'd want to gain a better conversion rate in future.

What is the point if traffic to the site is good but our conversion rate doesn't hit the mark we established in our financial projections? The mindset of our future generation in any part of the world may keep changing anytime and we should flow accordingly to the direction of the river flow. As our fingers aren't of equal length, so does everyone's taste and perspective. "Yessir" is like a frog in the well having one tunnel vision for life. However, for this present generation, we can temporarily support Alvin Phang's constructive opinion (but not logic) because of the years of his own bad experience.

God has created the beauty of black as well and there is no right or wrong having a dark background of a blogger site where credibility is most concerned. What we should worried most is the existence of blog hoaxes which are out to deceive us all. Despite the fact that some blog hoaxes still promote amazing genuine products which truly benefit some of us, we feel it is still unethical particularly the development of hypocrisy between both parties. Is it necessary to hide our identity (unless we are ex-criminals) to promote real products or services through blogging?

However, we prefer lighter background of any blogger site because the focus is only one step sharper but not necessarily better than darker background of any blogger site. More importantly, the blogger sites must belong to a honest blogger and not a hacker. Don't ever judge a book by its colour! Please be wise in what you's see, hear or feel. There are many hackers all over the world using lighter background of their blogger site to deceive us all.

Please develop a good mindset and a careful business strategy to check things out before we may venture into something in future. But do not be complacent at all times about anything from A to Z, from a sleepy countryside to a busy town and from social life to business life.

Thank You for the great article. I do have one question regarding the "dark or black" backgrounds.

My site below:

<a href="http://halloweencreepystuff.blogspot.com" rel="nofollow">Halloween Creepy Stuff</a>

is designed to have a "Halloween Creepy Theme" . if this site had a white background, it would take away from the Halloween feel. Do you agree?

Thanks,

David Lee.
