Tweet Blog Post Without A Plugin

Since my last post on the “Top 10 WordPress plugins”, I had read lots of readers asking for a Twitter WordPress Plugin. I got this tip from John Chow’s Blog Post and all you need to do is to modify your blog post entries in the file to add in the following code below:

<a rel=”nofollow” href=”http://twitter.com/home/?status=Reading @Gathersuccess- <?php the_title(); ?> http://gathersuccess.com/?p=<?php the_ID(); ?>”><img src=”http://www.gathersuccess.com/images/twitter.jpg” alt=”Tweet This” /> <strong>Tweet This Post!</strong></a>

Insert the above code and change to your domain and twitter name where I have bold them above to your WordPress single.php file at the point you want the Tweet link to show up. For my case, it is just below the blost post.

You will noticed the link is the default WordPress URL which is not SEO friendly. The reason you do this is because Twitter has limited 160 characters so you cannot put in the full url.

The reason, I did not want to install another plugin as this simple code would do the job and this will take up less resources in the WordPress engine.

  8. hi alvin
where i should post these code?

  9. @Jeff / @Kathleen

in the singles.php file, you can add the line of text immediately after the to have it appear in the text following the content. Remember you still have to change a few things for it to work on your blog, I recommend using the following:

    <a rel=”nofollow” href=”http://twitter.com/home/?status=Reading @[YOURTWITTERNAME] – /?p=”>Twitter.

This seems like a great idea, and I love the image you use for your Twitter link but from the blog post I can’t tell where to insert the lines of code.

    Insert in which file??? Where???

Thanks for the info, but would you mind clarifying for those of us who are…um…not coders?

    Thanks again!

  12. Hi Alvin

This is a great plugin, but I think it doesn’t work on UBT Theme by Carl.

I had inserted the code and change the border words you instructed, but I can’t see the image and the link was this –

I even try testing by not changing anything in the code you had given but still no luck, I still can’t see the little twitter bird logo and also the link cannot work too.

    Any suggestion ?
