I was looking through my old photos in my cupboard and I saw a few photos of my dad’s shop and I thought why not post about it.
The photo you see above is my Dad also known as the “SABOKING”, he has this store at Marine Parade in the past for more then 10 years. Selling delicious and mouth watering claypot rice, we get people all over Singapore always crowding our store once we always open our store at 11am everyday.
I remember the days when I was much younger, I would help out my dad at the shop to take orders and help out washing those claypots.
Here is another picture of the food that my dad was selling at that time.
If I am not wrong this pictures were taken in 1997 or so, which that time I was still a kid then.. =P But of all the business man in the world, the person I admire the most is my dad, the reason was the great entrepreneurship that he has in him!
He was always out to reengineer how claypot was made. Normally in traditional food store, claypot rice were cook using gas. But my dad wanted to be different and cook his claypot using microwaves. That was the reason why we were the fastest claypot in the east, as we can serve you a delicious claypot in just 3 minutes or less!
Not only that my dad was so smart, he even invented various kinds of different types of claypots. Here was what my dad had in his menu, black pepper chicken claypot rice, tiger chicken claypot rice, banana chicken claypot rice and even once cheese chicken claypot rice! And every new dish that my dad invented we always had a great sell out and customers keep coming back and wanted to know what was my dad’s latest creation.
I have learnt so much from my dad when I was helping out in his shop and I feel if it wasn’t for my dad’s drive to do business I would not be who I am today.
My dad was also featured in numerous newspaper articles and was mention in the hot radio stations of class 95 back then with Joe and the Flying Dutchman in the morning shows.
Some history of what my dad went through, he used to be in the Air Force for over 10 years and decided during the peck of his career where he would be promoted to a higher post. He did something most people would not do which was break out of his comfort zone and decided to open this food store.
I guess one thing I really learn and take from my dad and it may apply to you too. If you want to succeed in life always be in the position where you are not the most comfortable in. The more you break out of your comfort zone, you will realized you will experience an experience you never dream that you will ever achieve =)

Oh yes , I remembered the stall at parkway parade ! i used to buy when i was working at seaview
Have not been to parkway for quite awhile so where is his stall now ?
I remembered his stall alot of pictures , very very unique!!I love his claypot man !
My dad no longer has a store.. infact after that he closed the shop to be a taxi driver.. and later on.. now.. because my dad had an accident which he no longer not able to work because of that… he is not taken care by me and my family =)
That is also another reason my drive to succeed is so strong =)
Omg..i loved your dad’s claypot rice, esp the salted pork claypot which was always out of stock. That was many years back and I will always remember the smell and taste of your father’s food. =)

I was desperately looking for your dad’s store and finally find it through your website. I’m sad to hear that he no longer has a shop. I only tried his a few times when staying in Marine Terrace area as a teen more than 10 years ago. Your chicken, or was there a banana claypot rice too? Wow your dad’s claypot rice will and still is the best claypot rice in Singapore to me! I’m serious till now I an very dis-satisfied with the ’so’called’ best claypot rice introduced by friends or colleagues. Well I am not sure what your dad’s situation is now. I’ll be praying for him and pray for a MIRACLE that Alvin’s Claypot be back in business again someday.

Sorry I re-read your blog after I sent and realised your dad closed down his claypot business to be a taxi driver. I thought his business was doing well, I REALLY REALLY miss his claypot. Well I’ll be praying for you all. Be Blessed!

your dad’s claypot rice was VERY VERY GOOD. till today i’m still missing it. there’s nothing near to his so far. My favourite is the pork claypot rice. Used to pack it home almost every time my family and i pop by to Parkway Parade. Hope your dad recovers and that your family can get back into the business again. I’m pretty sure it’ll be a hit.

I’m curious about your dad’s claypot rice. I’m not local so I never tried it before. Have you ever think to franchise it or do a partnership in other country? Cheers!
