If you have been surfing around all the popular blogs recently, you will noticed most of the blogs online are converting their theme designs. To keep up the pace and tread so did I as I made some major changes to my blog with the new design and logo.
As an experienced blogger who only thinks about monetizing from my readers I noticed most blogger focus on only getting more RSS Readers. But hear me out as I will show you some valuable tips you must do on your blog to get more profits from your blogs.
Here Are 4 Tips You Need To Consider When You Are Blogging To Make Money Online
1. Do NOT Focus On RSS Subscription
It’s good to have RSS Subscription on your blog but what not many people are aware of is that RSS readers seldom buy STUFF! Why? Because they only read your blog from their own RSS readers and hardly will they ever have the chance to see the banners you have that sell stuff!
Also mainly RSS readers who subscribe to blogs are only looking for valuable information would they subscribe to your blog. If chances they see that your blog do not help them they would most likely unsubscribe.
The only way you can monetized your RSS readers is that you want them to click on your affiliate links on your blog. Which hardly not many RSS readers like to do =P
2. You Make More with Opt-Ins
As any marketer would know, getting first name and email address is the most important thing to collect in your Internet Business. You will noticed I never really focus much on my RSS subscription but would much focus more on getting my viewer’s first name and email address.
And this is the shocking news, people who fill in their first name and email address are more likely to buy something compared to a RSS Readers. How do I know that? Well like any marketer I tested it and its shockingly truth =P
3. Use Simple Themes That Has 1 Sidebar Only!
Many bloggers including mine used to have 2 sidebars and what I noticed was that it made the blog looked really messy with too many words to read. I realized after organizing the links, the click through rate on the sidebar was higher and in the past when I have two sidebars there were hardly anyone clicking on the categories!
So why bother to put things on your sidebar that do not generate profits for you? My tip would be only place things at the top of your sidebar that can generate the most cash for you. For example an opt-in box placed at the top of the sidebar or banners ads that sells your affiliate programs.
4. Put All Your Money Making Stuff on The Start Screen of Your Viewer
Lots of people do not know this, when you choose a theme you want to ensure you can capture the first 5 seconds of your viewers to do an action. The action can be anything like to fill up a simple opt-in form or to ask your readers to click on a banner or even your Adsense. That where all your money making stuff would appear on the first load of your blog. It’s what I call the focus point of your blog and you would want the most important thing to be placed at that very spot.
Here’s a screen shot of what I meant

What the image shows above are the hot spots of my blog. As you can see that lots of people who visit my blog actually looks right at the center of my blog design which in return get me more opt-ins and that’s what I meant by hot spots of your blog.
Summary
What works of many people and what you thought was good to use may not be always necessary a good tip. Most bloggers especially those who give advice on blogging never have the thought in mind to grab people’s contacts but prefer to get RSS subscriptions instead. In my view, I feel getting opt-in is far more greater then any RSS subscriber and I have been secretly building a HUGE list using my blog and that’s how you can make more money from your blogs =)

well done ! still like reading your stuff even if I don’t feel inclined to spend 5-10 hours a day working on the computer anymore !
I think the bit about attracting people who want to buy makes a lot of sense. Do you think people are more willing to pay for a service (eg. setting up of a blog for them) than to pay for a do-it-yourself book ? ie sell things to make lazy people’s lives easier ?
It really depends on what niche you are talking about… overall from my experience I can say that people prefer a do it yourself book because it’s cheapier =)
And the amazing thing is that when people read your book they are more willing to get your services later on
Hi Alvin,
I can see that tracking is a very important for our online business but most of us do not bother to track what our visitors does on our site.

Totally agree with your hotspot theory. My own testing on my blog gives approx 35% of readers clicking a link or image above the fold within 10 seconds of arriving. I.e Most casual visitors don’t know what they are looking for and just surf from one site to the next without actually checking everything thats on offer. Incidently, this even occurs when you are offering the world for free - a huge percentage don’t take the time to see whats on offer.

Hi, Alvin!
I would add have screen width less than 750 to tip #3.
It makes your site more professional apart from difficulty
in scrolling horizontally to read the rest of a sentence or
the side bar.
I’ve never seen any good reason for having a screen over
750px wide.

The reason I design it for 1024 width is because I did a test and check that 80% of my visitors have 1024 x 768 resolution.. so I cater to them more then the people with small screens =)
The reason to that is also.. we use all the space available to advertise what you want to offer..
Thanks for the tips. However, may I know where to get this wordpress template?
Cheers!

I agree with what you say regarding RSS subscribers and good point.
Plus, purely for your information, here is my experience when I arrived at this page.
I did see the color of the Blogging Traffic ebook banner (top, middle) however my mind didn’t register what I was looking at.
My eyes immediately went right, towards the ‘Click here to take on a blog analysis test’.
That banner/button seemed to have the greatest pull.
Then I went to read your article and when you referred to the hot spot in your blog and had the screen image there, that is when I went back to the top of the page and read the banner about the free book, properly.
Not sure if that’ll help you and other readers. Hope it does.
Thanks again for the great tips. It’s all good advice.
Namaste, Thea
