A schoolmate of mine in my poly days just ask me to do a paid review about his hosting service called Vodien. It’s a localized Singapore Web Hosting company since 2002 and I remember during my younger days as a student it was just a simple site. Today, it has grown to a really established web hosting company. I thought since I will be reviewing his web host I thought I give you some tips of choosing a web host.

To be frank, this is really one of the cheapest localized Singapore Web Hosting package you can find in Singapore. Personally I like their new layout and clean layout of the site and it’s easy to navigate around the site.

There are many web host companies out there but before you go a head and choose a web host here are 4 important key points to take note when selecting a web host.

1. Allows Multi-site / Multi-domain hosting

Many people these days have more than one website, and it’s important to know especially when you want to run an online business your hosting plan must allow you to include more then 1 domain on your host. Great new is that Vodien does offer the ability for every customer to host multiple domains / multiple websites on just one single plan.

2. You Will Need Large Disk space and Good Bandwidth

When running a full time online business you want to ensure you get lots of these two things which are large disk space to store your files and lots of bandwidth. A typical web page would normally have a size about only 10kb so if you have 100s of those - that would be 1,000KB which is also 1MB.

The recommend amount of disk space you should get should always be at least 1GB of space which you can store well over 100s of pictures and web files.

For bandwidth, the recommended amount would be at least 20GB per month. Which also means that your website only allows 20GB of information to be transfered onto the internet each month. This would allow about 200,000 visitors to your site till the bandwidth quote runs out & resets every month.

For Vodien, they are pretty smart and they actually offer large disk space plans (Standard plan 2gb @ $10 per month) and it also comes with unmetered data transfer. So you guys can host all your websites with them without having to worry about hitting quotas. Here’s screen shot of the plans they have.

3. Ensure Your Hosting Plan Has Database Features To Install Scripts

If you are thinking of running a blog on wordpress, you would not want to host your website on a web host that does not give you database features. Also another thing to know, you got to ensure it also support file formats like PHP & ASP is which a really common language for web programming.

In most cases, web hosting companies will provide two versions of web hosting. One of which is a Windows based web host or a Linux based web host. From experience I would say go with the Linux based web host as it’s more stable then the Windows based and it’s less prone to viruses ( Yes even web hosting companies has viruses! ).

4. Ensure It Has Fantastico

There are many web hosting companies out there, especially those really cheap ones that do not have Fantastico provided in the plan. Having that feature is pretty important because in Fantastico bundles with over 40 over free programs you can install on your web host.

With Fastastico you really save lots of money instead of paying hundreds of dollars on scripts.

Summary

I would say Vodien has pretty reasonable rates if you are looking for a Singapore based server. However, if you have intentions to do business outside of Singapore, I would recommend using a USA based server instead as the speed download will be much faster. Overall I would still get one myself as I can used it to stream local videos so much faster!

Since the last review I wrote on a review I paid US$400 for a blog review by john here I also wrote a 16 page report on the traffic I track based on the hits I got from that blog review itself which you can download for free at this link here.

Since that review report, I got lots of people thinking I actually hate John Chow. Just to keep things straight I do not hate the review non do I felt I wasted the US$400.. =P

Here’s My Secret Motive!

If you went to read the blog post about The Most Painful US$400 I Ever Spend, I actually made people felt and think I actually felt painful but in fact behind the scenes I was not. Because I know if I made some comment of a popular person like someone like John Chow who has a huge fan based of people at his blog. What would you naturally do when your idol is been offended in some way? You would want to find out who did it right? And also backup your idol right? So just to let you know I did that on purpose to make the fans come over to at least take a look at what I my blog offers =)

The Review War Starts Again

So here I am again with another paid review I just did at CashQuest’s blog here. It cost me US$80 to advertise on that blog. Was it worth it? Well I will let you know in a weeks time.. =)

Based on that spec US$80 was a steal! Because if you take US$80 divide by 816 readers that’s only $0.09! But of course not all the readers will come depend how strong his CTR on his review is. I was surfing around the Internet today and I stumbled upon this new website which allows you to sell and buy links! It’s called TNX which is a brand new site similar to text link ads. Launched on the 1st of August 2007, this website service has been picking up lots of popularity lately on the blogsphere.

Here’s how’s the main site looks like below.

As you can see from the image above, you can either sign up as an advertiser or publisher. To become a publisher it’s FREE to sign up here, and once you do that you will be able to get their special code and paste it on your blog to earn some extra cash by selling text links on your blogs.

If you noticed almost all popular bloggers in the blogsphere do that when it comes to monetizing from blogs. So if you are have not implemented such codes on your blog, I would say now is the best time to do so =)

Currently for a site that is only only less then 2 months old, it’s amazing they are now currently well over 26435 users in their network with over 27844308 according to their website stats.

How Much Can You Earn From TNX?

Another interesting thing they had on the site was an Income Calculator where you can input the number of rank pages you have to determine how much you can actually earn if you sell all 4 text links in their network.

And what you see on the right is basically how it looks like if I were to sell all 4 text links which is $101.68 per month. Not too bad =)

How Much It Cost To Advertise With TNX Network?

How Many Advertisers Do They Have?

I wanted to be sure this new network was good to go so I did some research and found that 27938537 text links were sold out of 26 527 so I will be testing it out to see what happens when I placed the codes on my blog if the marketplace there would response.

Since the launch of BlogRush and all the hype created all around the internet which is what John Reese is great at creating. Did this widget deliver as it says? Well almost everything presented in the video was there but for traffic you got to read on further to find out!

As you can see from the graph, I only refer a few people and it viral by itself with traffic increasing in the referral network and the overall traffic. But the traffic shown here is traffic from BlogRush only and from this blog you are reading so do not be so happy yet =P

What you see above are more details on the number of credits earned from BlogRush, the number of credit earned is determined by the number of times your widgets is ran on your blog + your referrals that have BlogRush installed. As you can see from the image above I had a total of 8,874 impressions.

The image above show the number of referrals you have in an mlm like style showing you number of referrals you have up to 10 levels. This is truly the amazing powerful of viral marketing in action =)

And finally this is what you should be looking at which actually shows you the number of clicks you get from other bloggers who post up the widget on their blogs. And the results was really stunting as I got a total of only 25 hits from other bloggers so far from that many impressions. Not a really great conversion I must say but it’s free anyway nothing much I can complain about. You can read another article by John here, he also did not really get great results about only 184 hits out of 56,287 impressions that only 0.3% conversion =P

My Thoughts on BlogRush

The key thing I noticed that many bloggers who implement BlogRush always place the widget at positions which is hardly visible to the readers. It is normally put in a position where readers hardly would view it. Because of that reason I feel that is the reason why the click through on the widgets were so bad.

But if you ask me they are smart because bloggers who put the widget at positions which is hard to find because that is not really what you want your readers to click. Why? Because my focus is for my readers to know more about me not others =) What is shown on the widget is extra news for others as there are no extra points given for people who click on the widget to read the news only based on the number of times the widget is shown!

So what people did was they created robots to keep on refreshing the browsers to get high impression rates from the widget and now it is causing a huge problem on the network.

Never the less, I still recommend trying it out and will check out what’s the overall results as it improves and I am still wondering what his one time offer will be later on. I do not believe John is so generous in providing a free service which has 4 million people on it and not earn a single cent? I will not suprised he will start some service or some sort later in the future for BlogRush.

Tips On Improving BlogRush Traffic

Use catchy titles on your blog post to attract attention, or you can do a fake announcements of BlogRush and blend in with the widget which may get better results. Because readers who are new to the widget and saw your story appearing on the widget may think that is part of the blog that has the widget. Do catchy titles that blends to blogs related to your post.

Since yesterday upon the release of the report I wrote, the report was downloaded over 150 times and I got quite number of people comment on it and thinking I was upset because I was not able to turn my $400 into some profits to at least cover the cost. Well $400 is no small amount every one can afford and I did not write this report based on frustration of loosing money but just basically I wanted to share some of the insides what happen with the review and I have nothing against John he did a great job of sending traffic just that it was not the correct target audience = )

There are over 77 million+ bloggers online and I know most bloggers make lots of money from reviews only or from affiliate programs or by selling ad space. Well the reason I was kind of upset because frankly money earned online is not easy to earn but like my great friend Philip just commented on this blog always looks for innovative ways to take a problem and turn it into a win-win solution and that was the reason I did the report =)

But it’s amazing when you start to learn more about the blogging marketplace with all the famous bloggers online it seems that the top bloggers on the Internet are only a handful of them (mainly found in Technorati top 100). Compared to the report I did I also did other review with other bloggers and my motive for the report is not to get back on John but just wanted to pin point some factors if you are thinking of writing reviews on your blog which can help you when you want to buy reviews.

I also did another review by a young guy, his name is Carl. A very nice kid whose started from no where but now is getting lots of attention because his website is ranked no.3 for the keyword “make money online”. I purchase a review from him at this link here and this review was so much cheaper and ROI was actually 400%! Most of it got to do with how he wrote his review =) Once you read the review you will understand why I rated John’s one as 70% buyers as Carl’s review was some where 50:50 still acceptable as an advertiser and I realized his target audience was so much better.

If you are thinking of writing reviews here are some key pointers to take note

1. You Need To Make Your Advertisers Happy

Why? If your advertiser is not happy with the results he get will he continue to advertise on your blog? Some way to ensure great results for advertisers is to provide additional offers like a text link ad if the user is not happy with the results you have. Customer service is really important when he comes to online support.

2. Careful What You Write In Your Review

You want to have a careful balance of 50:50 buyers and good stuff about the product you review to give a fair balanced to your advertiser and blog readers. I think the reason most bloggers now a days are afraid to pitch it because they are afraid to loose out on their loyal readers on the blog. If you are not confident on a product that asked for review at the first place and felt that the product really suck that I recommend you do not do the review at the first place.

Because if you personally find the product really suck and you review it really suck you are in for a big trouble from the advertiser and people who are looking to buy reviews will be careful when they decide to advertise with you.

3. Offer Follow Ups To Ask How’s The Review With The Advertisers

Most often, especially popular blogs. They do not follow up with the advertisers to ask how the outcome of the advertisement. I did a few blog reviews so I know there are not many bloggers doing that. When someone orders your reviews, it is always good to always email them to ask how the response they got in the review so that you can fine tune your review much later in the future.
