People generally do not care what you have unless you show you care about their needs and desires. That is why understanding your audience's pain points is important when it comes to crafting your marketing message or content that people care about solving.

As a marketer myself since 2006, identifying your audience's pain points is key in helping others solve problems. The better you are at solving people’s problems the more services and products you can solve to make more money :)

Here are 7 Strategies To Identify the Pain Points of Your Audience

1.Conduct Online Surveys or Ask for Feedback

To understand your audience, the best way is to ask them through an online survey or social media post. But you must know how to ask in a way that shows you care for your audience.

An example of a dog instructor helping his customers will post this on his Facebook “What are the top 3 problems you have with your dog? comment below”

By asking people what problems they have, you help them to identify the issues and concerns they have, and you as the expert job is to find solutions to these problems they have.

You can use tools like Google Forms and Survey Monkey to create and analyze your target audience and even offer an incentive or free gift for completing the survey 🙂

2.Social Media Listening

The best resource to find what common problems people faced in your audience is by joining groups or discussions on Social Media

You can monitor common discussions, keywords, and conversations happening on social media related to your industry. Pay attention to the questions, complaints, and frustrations expressed by your target audience. Write them down in a list and from their list you can create content, service, or product to solve that problem and sell it to them later on :)

You can use tools like Hootsuite, Mention, or Brandwatch to track and analyze social media conversations of your target audience to research and find what key pain points there are in the market.

Remember the better you are solving people’s problems, your target audience will find you valuable and that’s how you can sell them services or your product later on 🙂

3.Online Communities and Forums

While this might be old school back when I first started GatherSuccess with no clue what to write, I would go to forums and target audiences’ most common problems.

What I used to do is once I read the issue they were facing, I would write articles to address that problem and post them in the forum followed by an article I wrote on my blog to aid their issues.

In that way, you are not only engaging with the communities by providing value add to them but also gaining trust with them and that’s priceless in the world of marketing 🙂

Resources such as Reddit, Quora, or industry-specific forums can be valuable sources of insights.

4.Keyword Research

If you are not aware of tools like Google Keyword Planner means you really have a lot to catch up 😛 This used to be the industry standard and main tool marketers used in the early years of marketing. It helps you to identify search queries and topics related to your industry and tells you the demand for it in that country so you can generate content related to those keywords.

Above is an example of dating issues and monthly searches, showing you clearly 100 to 1,000 every month have Tinder and Facebook dating issues 🙂

5.Customer Interviews and Focus Groups

One of the easiest ways to make yourself to be an expert in your field is to interview someone else who is an expert on the topic you are keen about.

By interviewing your customers or experts in the field, you get valuable insights and tips that are related to your field or audience that will aid you in getting more valuable customers for yourself.

6.Competitor Analysis

With now the help of Google and ChatGPT, it is so easy now to research your competitors and find out what content or product, or service sells well online. If you are not analyzing what your competitors are doing you are missing out on what is really working right now in the current trend.

Here are just a few pointers to help you

  • Identify what are their top-selling items

  • How are they branding them

  • What are their 3 unique selling points that people are attracted to

  • What can you do differently to improve the product or service to sell to your customers

Warning, never ever do a price war with your competitors. That’s the common mistake most sellers online do. What you should rather think about is how can you stay more value add to your customers so that people will be willing to pay more for your products and services so that you can attract high-value customers than low-value customers…. haha 🙂 Price War only attracts low-value customers and usually are not easy to upsell them more.

7.Website Analytics

The best way to understand your audience is to look at the behavior and data of your customers on your website and social media. You can determine things like age, gender, and country to help you identify who is your audience and what are they really keen about.
